IASC 2025 Pre-Conference Online, Asynchronous Community Engagement Event - Coming in February 2025!
Some IASC members have requested that IASC 2025 have some online components so that people who cannot travel to Massachusetts can still participate.
Consequently, we’ve organized a IASC 2025 online subcommittee [1] who have been regularly meeting and are designing both pre- and post-conference online “Open Space” community engagement events that are slightly experimental in nature. This online asynchronous event – and perhaps others to follow – will include opportunities for commons scholars and practitioners to learn about each other’s work, exchange ideas, and foster connections.
The first pre-conference event will happen in early February 2025. The launch dates are not yet finalized. Keep an eye on IASC newsletters (not a member? Join us!) and this website for more information.
Registration information will be added here and communicated via the IASC Newsletter soon.
[1] We’re grateful to the IASC 2025 online planning subcommittee members — Ben Roberts (chair), Raksha Balakrishna, Greg Bloom, Esther Bravo, Bryan Bruns and Levana Suresh — for their ongoing efforts planning this conference component.
More detail...
Through offering this pre-conference online event, we hope to provide IASC members who intend to participate in-person at IASC 2025 or online, to be able to engage with one another in several different ways.
- IASC 2025 Accepted Panel Participants. Meet with others who are on accepted IASC 2025 panels to discuss, in advance, how their panel might play out;
- IASC Geographic Regions. Discuss with others in their IASC region – Africa, Asia, China, Europe and CIS, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America, Oceania — the discussion agenda in your regional meeting AT the conference and also AFTER the conference in later 2025 or in 2026;
- IASC Thematic areas. Create new opportunities for dialog between you and other IASC members who are working in a particular IASC thematic area (e.g., natural resource commons, urban commons, knowledge commons, etc.); and most importantly,
- New organically created discussions. Utilize our IASC 2025 online asynchronous space to propose topics of interest, identify others who also are interested in that topic, and allow them a place to organically meet and discuss the topic and possible new ideas for working together in the future. These discussions may seed the “un-conference” portion of the IASC 2025 in-person event.
All of these items, we hope, will allow IASC members both who can and cannot be at IASC 2025 in person, to participate in the conference in meaningful ways before the conference and after. If this February Open Space online event works as we expect it might, we will perhaps consider running a second one before we meet in person in June 2025.
